I knew this movie would be a big box office draw for 2 reasons:
It’s an addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It promotes diversity. (Finally!)
What I didn’t expect was the movie grossing over $1.3 billion revenue worldwide. That is an unthinkable amount of money. Kudos to you, Black Panther! So how did the movie achieve this much success?
In my opinion, the movie offered a deeper look into a Marvel character that was only barely introduced in Captain America: Civil War. You got a glimpse of Black Panther avenging his father’s death and teaming up with Iron Man during the climatic showdown, but it left a lot of questions behind.
In this movie, you get to see his origin story but you also get a closer look at the culture and tradition of Wakanda and its people. Wakanda resides in Africa, a familiar continent, yet the movie still manages to make you feel as if you are experiencing an other-worldly place. The tech is bigger, better, and based on vibranium- the element responsible for creation of items like Captain America’s shield!
The cast deserves massive amounts of praise here- led by Chadwick Boseman, plus Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Andy Serkis, Forest Whitaker, and Martin Freeman! I personally was happy to see Andy Serkis’ and Martin Freeman’s characters receiving more screen time in this film!
Overall, I think Black Panther was a great addition to the MCU and I am excited to see where the next chapters take us!
My rating: 4 out of 5 reels.
